This Kookaburra limited edition Kahuna has been developed in collaboration with renowned indigenous artist Ky-ya Nicholson Ward (Djirringu Art) and Kookaburra brand ambassador Scott Boland, who is a proud Gulidjan man. The Gulidjan people’s traditional lands cover the Lake Colac region in Victoria. The artwork design represents connecting through sport, highlighting the importance of culture and unity through sport and bringing people together as one.
MEETING PLACES: The connected circles are meeting places representing the coming together as a community for the love and passion of cricket. It highlights the importance of culture and unity in sport. It tells the story of people coming from many different places but becoming one.
DIAMOND LINEWORK: The diamonds are a symbol of resilience and strength, highlighting the fight that First Nations people have and still are going through. It’s honouring those people who have paved the way for First Nation’s people in the sporting environment today. This design has been used since time immemorial and is used on shields, tools and cloaks. It also highlights the beauty of Southeastern First Nations culture as we are a carving culture and don’t do dot art.
CROSS HATCHING: The cross hatching is another significant symbol; in this artwork it represents working together as a team and caring for those beside you.
SWIRLY LINES: The swirly lines represent the smoke from our welcoming fires, the smoke is used to get rid of any negative energy or spirits whilst on someone’s traditional country. Highlighting positive energy and safe spaces.
SWEET SPOT POSITION = Mid: Not too high or too low, the mid sweet spot position is the most popular setup among all cricket bats. This setup gives performance both straight and square of the wicket, while allowing players to be confident with an array of shots. This prime sweet spot position is also famous for what many refer to as a 'balanced' pickup.
PREPARATION = Natural: Like most cricket bats this stick needs the full preparation process before use. Take a look at the tab below for more information on this process.
BOW = Standard: The regular bow found in the majority of modern cricket bats which gets your hands slightly ahead of the ball for ease of stroke play. It also helps the cricket bat feel more aggressive.
EDGES = Big: These edges are heading close to the magic 40mm mark. Big edges make for a forgiving and powerful cricket bat with a wider sweet spot. Please be aware that junior bats can still have big edges but they will be relative to 40mm due to their size.
SPINE HEIGHT = High: A high spine maximises the hitting power of the centre of the cricket bat.
PROFILE SHAPE = Slightly Scalloped: A small amount of scalloping is seen in a very large amount of cricket bats. The goal is to save weight while still making the sweet spot as wide as possible. Even very high quality bats can contain a small amount of scalloping in order to reduce their weight.
HANDLE TYPE = Oval: Traditionally used to aid the batsman with having a more dominant top hand during stroke play allowing him/her to produce more controlled shots and play straighter. An oval handle also has the secondary benefit of less twisting when striking the ball.
TOE = Natural: This bat needs some form of toe preparation via shoe goo, a toe guard or your favourite secret recipe.
