Cricket Bat Warranty & Care Guide
At the Greg Chappell Cricket Centre (GCCC), we want you to walk out to the crease with complete confidence! Cricket bats are crafted from willow—a beautiful, natural, and soft timber designed to repeatedly strike a hard leather object. Because of this unique job, natural wear, tear, and superficial surface cracking are completely normal and part of a bat's lifecycle.
All cricket bats purchased from GCCC (in-store or online) come with a 12-month warranty covering manufacturing faults, fully compliant with the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
The Golden Rule is Bat Preparation
Before your new bat ever faces a hard leather cricket ball, it must be properly prepared. Proper preparation protects the willow and extends the life of your bat.
If this is your first time knocking in a cricket bat, or if you simply need a little refresher, you can check out our DIY Guide here.
Warranty claims will not be approved if the bat has not been adequately prepared.
Knocking-In: Your bat requires a thorough knocking-in process to compress the wood fibres.
Note on Machines: GCCC does not recommend commercial or automated "strapped-in" knocking machines. These often apply incorrect pressure, causing deep bruising to the willow or immediate shoulder damage. We recommend hand-knocking & natural play-in or our specialised hand-guided GCCC Match Ready Services.
Protection: GCCC HIGHLY recommends you apply Extratec facing, edge tape, and toe protection (toe guard or Shoe Goo) to protect the vulnerable areas on your cricket bat.
📄 Bat Warranty - What is Covered vs. What is Not
Every warranty claim is assessed on a case-by-case basis by both GCCC and the manufacturer's expert craftsmen to verify whether a defect is present.
✅ What IS Covered (Manufacturing Faults)
If a problem arises within 12 months from the date of purchase due to a manufacturing defect, it is covered. Examples may include:
A broken or completely dislodged handle.
A major split through the core cleft of the wood under normal playing conditions.
Significant, deep cracking at the shoulder unrelated to impact or misuse.
❌ What IS NOT Covered (Wear, Tear & Misuse)
Because willow is a natural material, the warranty does not cover damage caused by inaccurate play, poor maintenance, or environmental factors, including:
"Yorker" Damage: Severe cracking or splitting at the absolute toe of the bat caused by digging out yorkers or striking the ground.
Insufficient Knocking-In: Surface cracking or splitting resulting from a bat being used in match play before the willow has been fully compressed.
Machine Damage: Fractures or structural failure resulting from aggressive commercial machine knocking.
Improper Maintenance: Damage caused by over-oiling (rotting the wood) or under-oiling (causing the wood to become brittle).
Moisture & Heat Damage: Swelling from use in wet weather, or severe cracking/warping caused by leaving the bat in hot environments (e.g., inside a car boot or in direct sunlight).
Remember: Small, superficial surface cracks on the face and edges are an expected part of using a willow bat. They do not impact performance and can usually be gently sanded out.
🛠️ The Assessment & Remedy Process
If you believe your bat has a manufacturing defect, we are here to help guide you through the process. Please note that most bat claims cannot be remedied instantly, as the bat must be physically examined.
Timeframe: Assessments and structural repairs (such as handle replacements or minor binding) take an average of 10 to 14 working days in conjunction with the manufacturer.
Remedies: Depending on the severity and nature of the fault (under ACL guidelines), the course of action may include a professional repair, a replacement bat, or a refund. If a fault is minor, a structural repair is the industry-standard remedy.
